DWR reviews proposals and distributes
grant funds and low-interest loans for local groundwater management

AB 303 Local Groundwater Assistance Funds
The goal of the Local Groundwater Management Assistance
Act of 2000 (Assembly Bill 303) is to help local agencies
better understand how to manage groundwater resources effectively
to ensure the safe production, quality, and storage of groundwater
in the State. Eligible projects include groundwater studies,
groundwater monitoring, and groundwater basin management.

Grants and Loans
The Groundwater Storage Program of the Bond Law (Section
79170 et seq.) authorizes DWR to provide grants to local
agencies, and/or other applicants in partnership with local
agencies, for feasibility studies and projects that enhance
conjunctive management of surface water and groundwater.
Conjunctive use and expanded groundwater storage capacity
are essential elements of the program.
The Groundwater Recharge Program of the Bond Law (Section
79161 et seq.) authorizes DWR to provide loans to local
agencies for projects that enhance groundwater recharge.
This loan program is intended to help fund groundwater recharge
projects designed to construct, expand, renovate, or restructure
facilities used for the purpose of groundwater recharge
and to acquire additional land for recharge facilities.
